How to use a text file to get more accurate captions in Kaltura
print icon

Kaltura now offers a way to help increase the accuracy of your captions. If you have created a video recording using a script, you can save your script as a text file (.txt) and then upload it to your Kaltura video. Kaltura will then align the content of your text file with the video and provide a caption file (SRT/DFXP/VTT). Follow these steps to upload your text file into your Kaltura video.

  1. Navigate to your Kaltura My Media page in Canvas.
  2. Locate the desired media item and select its title.
  3. On your media item's details page, select the Actions drop-down menu, and select Edit.

  4. Select the Captions tab in the editor then Upload captions file.

    5. Select and upload the text file, the language of the text, the accuracy of the captions, and the desired label of the uploaded file. Finally, hit save.

  5. Once your file is selected, it'll populate under the Captions tab. You'll have four options beneath the Actions header: Edit, Delete, Download, and Don't Show on Player

  6. Edit allows you to edit the language, accuracy, and visible label.

  7. Delete will delete the upload.  Kaltura will prompt you before deleting it if you select this by mistake.

  8. Download will allow you to download the captions file in a .srt file type.

  9. Don't show on Player will hide the captions file from the front-end user. This will allow you to store multiple caption files even if you don't want them accessible.
