Students: How to join a Zoom meeting
print icon

You can use a laptop/desktop computer or a mobile device to join a Zoom meeting, however, please keep in mind that you may experience better quality on a laptop/desktop computer. If you do wish to use a mobile device to join a Zoom meeting, we recommend that you download and install the mobile app before trying to join your first Zoom meeting.

If you are using a mobile device:
You can use the Canvas mobile app to access your Zoom meeting if you wish. If you experience any difficulty accessing Zoom from the Canvas mobile app,  please log into canvas.fsu.edu using your mobile device's browser instead.

First, log into your FSU-provisioned Zoom account at fsu.zoom.us so that you ensure you are using your official FSU Zoom account for your course meeting. Then, log into FSU's Canvas at canvas.fsu.edu and open your Canvas course that is using Zoom meetings. There are two ways to join a Zoom meeting for your class.

Option 1: Join from the Zoom area of your Canvas course

Navigate to the Zoom area of your Canvas course site by clicking Zoom on the course navigation menu, then click the Join button for the scheduled meeting:

If you are using a mobile device to join the meeting, the Zoom mobile app will launch automatically when you click Join. If you are using a laptop or desktop computer, then you will be prompted to join from your browser or download and run the Zoom application to join the meeting. You may select either of these options. If you are prompted to login, follow these directions to login with your FSU Zoom account. You may also be prompted to choose to join the Zoom meeting's audio from your device's audio, or by dialing in by phone. If you choose to dial in by phone, we strongly recommend dialing *67 before the phone number to ensure that your personal phone number is not made visible to your classmates.

Option 2: Click on the "Join meeting URL" shared with you

Your instructor may choose not to enable the Zoom integration in your Canvas course. In this case, your instructor will instead share a Zoom meeting link with you via a Canvas announcement or email. Simply navigate to your Canvas course and select Announcements on the course navigation menu. Then, click on the Join URL in the course announcement or course email to join the meeting:

If you are using a mobile device to join the meeting, the Zoom mobile app will launch automatically when you click the Join URL.
