Allow Students to Finish Incomplete

When a semester concludes in Canvas, students are unable to go back in and submit future work. You can bypass this restriction for students who received an incomplete by completing the Manual Student Enrollment Form (odl.fsu.edu/canvasenroll when prompted to login, make sure to use your [email protected] email address). Once your request is processed, you will be able to adjust some of the settings so that your course only appears as "active" to the students still finishing the course (learn more about how user enrollments and course access work in Canvas). Alternatively, you can enroll them in the current or upcoming semester's course so you aren't fighting the old due dates.

Step 1: Complete the Manual Student Enrollment Form

We will create a new, special section in your course site for students who need to finish an incomplete in your course once you complete the form (link above. Please note: When accessing the Manual Student Enrollment Form, you will be prompted to login. To access the form you must use your [email protected] email address as your login username). Once we have created this new section you will then need to set new availability settings and due dates for course content that the student needs to complete.

Step 2: Set New Availability Settings and Due Dates

Please note: You do not need to complete this step if you choose to enroll the student into the current or upcoming semester's course.

  1. Select Edit for the assignment the student needs to complete. There is no way to change all assignment settings in bulk, so this will need to be done for each individual assignment, Module, or any other graded items that have availability settings applied.
  2. Select +Add.

  3. Enter the name of the new section that we created for you in the same area where you entered the dates for the assignment.

  4. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
