When a semester concludes in Canvas, students are unable to return and submit future work. You can bypass this restriction for students who received an incomplete by completing the Manual Student Enrollment Form (go to odl.fsu.edu/canvasenroll when prompted to log in, make sure to use your [email protected] email address).
Once your request is processed, you will be able to manage the student's incomplete through either a new course-site specific to the student or within a current/future term. The student will see your choice as an active course they'll be able to access and engage with to finish (learn more about how user enrollments and course access work in Canvas).
Option 1: Independent Course
This choice is for an independent course that can be managed and maintained regardless of any term dates or lengths.
We will create copy of your course with special permissions allowing it to remain opened and editable after the original course's term concludes.
Note: When accessing the Manual Student Enrollment Form, you will be prompted to log in. To access the form, you must use your [email protected] email address as your login username.
This new course will have an imported copy of the gradebook for the student's past scores, but will not have all previous submissions and interactions within the course. If past submissions are required for updated grading they would need to be referenced from the original concluded course.
Option 2: Using a Future or Current Active Course
This choice is if you wish to add an incomplete from a concluded term into an active or future term.
We will create and enroll the student into a new section in the requested active course called Incompletes. The student will have access to the active course-site for the same window as the other students enrolled in the course.
When assigning students to any assignment you can choose to assign the request student by name or by the new Incompletes section.

Select Edit for the assignment the student needs to
complete.
Note: If your student has multiple assignments left to complete, you can visit Canvas's guide on bulk updating due dates and availability dates. -
Select
+Add.

Enter the name of the new section that we created for you in the same area where you entered the dates for the assignment.

Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
