What is the QuickStart Wizard

QuickStart Wizard

The QuickStart Wizard allows you to apply templates and pre-formatted content blocks when creating a new page. The wizard button will only appear on blank content pages (e.g., a new page, an assignment, or a discussion).

The Wizard Button

The Wizard Interface

You can toggle between templates and content blocks in the wizard interface. Hovering over a selection will give you a preview of that template or content block.

(A) Selecting a template or content block will load it in the "content preview" window on the left-hand side.

You can only select one template, but you can select multiple content blocks (of the same or different types). You can also add content blocks to a template in the wizard interface.

(B) The final step is to hit "add to editor" to add the template to the Rich Content Editor (RCE), where you will type in your course information.

Using the Wizard

Applying a Template

Once you select a template and it loads in the content preview window, you can rearrange content blocks, delete content blocks, or add additional content blocks from the "blocks" section of the wizard.

(A) Use the up and down arrows to rearrange the order of the content blocks. The red X will delete a content block.

(B) Once you have set up the template to your preferences, select "add to editor" to add the template to the Rich Content Editor (RCE) where you can type in your course content and information.

Applying Content Blocks

Select one or many content blocks in the wizard interface and they will load in the content preview window.

(A) You can use the up and down arrows to rearrange the order of the content blocks. The red X will delete content blocks.

(B) The content blocks are under "pages" for general page content blocks and "syllabus" for syllabus content blocks. You can expand the selections by clicking on + or you can search for a specific block in the search bar.

(C) Once you have your content blocks set to your preferences, select "add to editor" and the pre-formatted content will be added to the Rich Content Editor (RCE) where you can type in your course content and information.

Editing

After selecting "Add to Editor" the content will load in the Rich Content Editor (RCE) where you can type in your information.

Adding Content Blocks

Adding Pre-Formatted Content Blocks

You can add the pre-formatted template blocks to your page through the sidebar at any point while designing or editing your page.

Begin by inserting a blank content block on the + "add new elements" tab, and then while editing the content block, you can replace the blank content block with a template, or you can add a template block above or below the current content block.

Place your cursor inside the content block in the RCE (A) , which will bring up the editing content block tools.

(B) Pay close attention to the "template behavior" section, as this selection will determine what happens with the template block. Based on your selection, it will either overwrite your current blank content block or add the pre-formatted template block above or below.

(C) In this area, you can select from the list of template blocks for content pages or your syllabus.

The Final Result

In the example above,  "overwrite" was selected as the template behavior, so the chosen template block replaced the blank content block with one of the pre-formatted template blocks - "Activities & Assessments."
